An established shakuhachi maker from Ibaraki prefecture, north of Tokyo, Suikyõ has been professionally crafting shakuhachi for the past 25 years. He served his apprenticeship as a maker with Tamai Chikusen just as Bonchiku did, and their shakuhachi flutes share the same fine craftsmanship.. He, as Bonchiku, is also a master shakuhachi player and regularly performs at major concerts all over Japan. He has studied performance with the same teacher, Itõ Reizan since 1972, and won first prize at his shihan performance in Tokyo in 1984. Among his clients are students of the Junsuke Kawase school and the well-known performers Tanabe Retsuzan and Tanabe Shõzan. Suikyõ is an unassuming man with a deep love of nature and the traditional arts of Japan. He often tests his new shakuhachi in the mountains around his home, where he grows persimmons, grapes, pears and plums. His professional name means 'Clear Mirror'. Although related in their origins as makers, Suikyõ and Bonchiku make quite different shakuhachi with respect to tonal quality and mouthpiece geometry. Please enquire further.
